Getting high speed internet in hyderabad
Getting beamcable requires that you run his “24online” client on your box. They have a ethernet cable running from into my house ( I wonder how they do it) and i get link light on just by plugging in. They 24online client then logs me on to the network and “enables” internet. If anyone knows how this actually works (sequence of steps) I would love to know.
Words of caution. I can’t seem to plug the ethernet cable into the wireless router (Linksys WRT54G) i brought from US. I guess it doesn’t have the 24online client installed on it. I have a request into the beam cable tech support folks to see what i need to do.
I also brought a vonage phone here. Basically, I wanted the “modem” out put to go into the router and allow me to run a small home network. The normal set up for US. Let’s see if i can make it happen.

Hi Ravi,
There are a couple of things you may want to try:
1. Configure the Linksys router to clone the MAC address of your main PC (which you are running the 24Online client on). I believe the 24Online client is sending your MAC address as part of the login request (to make it more difficult for someone to spoof), and this may be why it’s not working.
2. There is a freeware client for 24Online called Slyberoam. The author claims to have gotten this software to work through a Linksys router. Here is a link: http://www.rasteroid.com/software/slyberoam/slyberoam.asp
From what I know about 24Online, I am suspecting if you can get the Linksys router to fool 24Online by switching the MAC address to the same as your computer, you will be able to run more than one computer behind it as long as one computer is logged into 24Online.
I’d appreciate you letting me know if you can get this working - I have a friend of mine who runs 24Online and I am trying to see if it will work with a Linksys router.

Hey!
What I noticed is most of the services here in HYD are MacID sensitive,
You might wanna ask ur ISP (BeamCable) to configure your routers MacID to the ur primary ID, so that you can run your home metwork.

I have a macintosh and I got in touch with BeamCable. The technicians near our home in hyderabad dont seem to be able to get into 24hr online client. although login seems to be ok. Internetexplore:Mac does not seem to upload any internet pages - any suggestions?

Check the PPOE settings on Vonage router. Log into the vonage router settings and give the beam cable’s user id and password. I guess the router for your connection is on some lamp pole close to your house.

Beam sucks in customer Service. You have to call multiple times to get service. Once i spent more than a couple of weeks waiting for them to understand what was wrong. Infact the 2 technicians said that since they didnt understand wht i was saying ……….obviously I knew more than them. Now if I couldnt solve their problem how could they ……..point . Still since it is a small company I can forgive them a few times coz the bigger players in broadband seem to suck more.

hey Ravi, Even i am from hyd and i am using the powerbook g4. mine is a local cable internet connection and it is perfectly working for me. I also have an airport extreme (router) . Gimme a shout if u dont find people to sort it out. initially even i had problems with it.I know the pain! Hi,
I have been successfully using a wireless router with 24Online connection.
They indeed do MAC address filtering and the CyberoamOnlineclient monitors your login and logout activity. Let me tell you how did I get past thru this.
1. You need to have a PC where you have the CyberoamOnline client installed. It need to be on all the time you are accessing internet.
2. Connect your Wireless router to the main PC. Make sure that the internet cable from the ISP is not connected to anything. Open the routers GUI and do a MAC address cloning. Make connection type as DHCP. After you save the settings, it is recomended to shutdown the PC and router and reboot.
3. Now connect the internet cable to the router and login normaly from PC. Make sure that you do not have the Cyberoam client is not installed in any other PC. You will be able to access internet from both hard wired and wireless PC/Laptop.
4. Vonage phone also work fine if you are getting min 128 Kbps. I am using a WRTP54G which has a vonage adapter built in. It has 2 RJ11 ports and I can connect common phones in to that. If you are using WRT54G then you need a Vonage adapter that will have a RJ45 port.

VOIP is not illegal in india, but termination of VOIP calls on PSTN lines is illegal.
that is you cant hook up a conference device to connet VOIP phone and BSNL Phone.
There are recent articles and details in The Hindu new paper.

I stay at road no:4,Banjara Hills.I have been on a hunt for an apt broad band connection since past 15days.I heard BSNL is the best but when i contacted them i was told that it would take 2 months since ports were unavailable(several connections are held up and inventory sort was not given as it is the practice of any public sector to encourage its competors!!!!!).I was suprised to learn that Airtel doesnt provide connection in the heart of the city i.e at Banjara Hills.The customer care of Tata Indicom is pathetic,i made it a point to call them evry day for a connection.i am still waiting for their response.Hathway people also raised some issues.How about Beam cable and Iquara?Can you provide me the details?Is it so difficult for to get a Broadband connection in the heart of Hyderabad?I am really annoyyed.

The service from beam cable really sucks its very bad these days,I would suggest every one here not to go with beam cable,theie support is very bas as well every time we have to keep calling them and the problem is taken care after 4 days it really sucks.

BEAM Cable is an useless interconnection. I have booked an internet connection on Monday 11-06-2007. I was told I will get the connection by 13-06-2007 evening
To collect the money they came in a day. But to install it no one is available. Further I have registered 6 Complaints and they don’t even have the courtesy to respond.
Getting in touch with the customer care is hell and further , They will not connect you to the concerned persons.
Now they started a new style where they put the phone on your face and say connection problem. Sick people.
I blasted them today for wasting my time. I have asked them to refund my money waiting for them to pay my money back.

NEVER GO WITH TATA VSNL. EMPLOYEES ARE CHEAT AND NEVER WORK. I HAVE MADE MORE THEN 12 CALLS SO FAR FOR CONNECTION TRANSFER IN FEASIBLE AREA IN HYDERABAD. EVERY TIME THEY LOG A NEW COMPLAIN TO WORK ON PREVIOUS UNHEARD COMPLAIN. Guys did u found any solution to the original router issue?
I am using a WRT54GS. its and old one about 1 years old was working with my SBC Yahoo SpeedStream DSL modem well.
recently I switched to Beam Cable after cameback to India. Now the CAT5 (rj45) that comes out from the wall jack works well with my HP n6120 laptop picks up the Ethernet connection well and I am getting the wired connection with no problem.
however WRT54GS not picking up the ethernet. internet light is just blinking. as if its pooling but not finding any network. same thing happening if I try to setup it up as a HUB or access point. Exact same issue present with my second computer no lights on as if the line is dead.
I tried with MAC address cloning - with no luck.
