Beam cable updates
a) All the home magic packages typically range between 64Kbps and 128Kbps. The “upto” 512Kbps is a “possibility”.
b) They bind a mac adress to an ip address even though they don’t always need to. Check your connection to see if you mac address is bound to ip. If your mac address is not bound to your ip you can use any ONE of your multiple computers to connect to internet.
c) If you dont run linux as a gateway and want to use a public available wireless router or something, you have to use the “data download - data transfer only” packages. He recommends using “Home Speed 1GB”.
d) With these data transfer packages they don’t do mac address binding and also don’t need “login”.
Well next step is to upgrade and see what happens. I have 2 weeks to get vonage to work.

Ravi,
There is another company in Hyderabad that provides cable internet. Hathway Cable. I have my cable connection through them and it is pretty good. I was going to go with BSNL, but they said it would be another 7-10 days before they had service in my area. Which in India means they have no clue when they will provide it. Thing is with Hathway I have been calling since yesterday and they still have not had a salesman call me to discuss all their plans. Might be easier to go to the office tommorrow. Anyway here is their address: http://www.hathway.com/ I am going to try and get a connection from them by tommorrow or at least next week, and I should get my Vonage by then, so will let you know if it works or not.

Do not subscribe to Hathway, I repeat, do not use Hathway. I have been testing at home at the same time Sify and Hathway. I opted for the simple 128 kbps service from both providers. In the case of Sify, their speed is consistend at around 117 kbps for both upstream and downstream performance. As for Hathway, they cap the upstream speed at 50 kbps and downstream at around 82 kbps. I have been on the phone and had Hathway technicians at my flat on three occasions and have been on the phone with there senior technical support person every day since the service was installed 14 days ago. I have tried out all three service offerings ( 128, 256, 512 kbps ) and Hathway shaves off 30% of the downstream bandwitch for all three. This means ( 128 = 84 kbps ), ( 256 = 180 kbps ), and ( 512 = 330 kbps ). This means they are stealing off the top bandwith intentionaly. It makes no difference wether you are accessing sites in India, England or the USA the performance is consistent. This company is not to be trusted, they are theives. I have been trying to discontinue service for days and they keep trying to send someone to my flat which never amounts to much since the solution is on their end.

Hi Ravi,
I am om the view that Hathway is really no good. Their promise is as good as nothing. Speeds are awful. I have been using Iqara and Hatway for over a year now, Iqara is marginally better.
July 29th, 2005 at 10:09 am
try others … get in touch if interested.. beam and hathway are not the end of the world.
September 7th, 2005 at 11:32 pm

Hi Every1,
Seems like every company here is doing the same. I recently got a TataVSNL 128 plan and it only worked for 2days in a week. When ever i tried to contact the CC they saying “Thanks for calling and we will forward your message to our technical team and they will be in touch with you” They never bothered to contact me btw. The next line from them is ” Is there anything i can help you with Sir??” I wonder what else they can help me with
.
I so badly need a broadband connection any help/suggestion from you guys would be greatly appreciated. Where is this beam?? do they have a website or a phone number i can contact??
Cheers

Hello Prady,
Iqara is better than others. I have been using Iqara since an year. The connection is very reliable and speeds are exactly what they promised. Service is good, if you contact the right person. They have a rule that a problem must be solved within 24hours after a complaint. And in my experience, they cleared most problems within a day.
February 17th, 2006 at 1:13 am
Guys beware of HATHWAY. They are the most unprofessional people I have ever met. I had applied for a new connection which they promised within 3 working days. After 6 days when I contacted them they said that it will take another 3 days. The 3 days for them never seem to end. Finally I got frustrated and opted to cancell my account as even after 15 days they had no clue. The worst part is that I had to keep calling and not even once I got a call from them.
The next part of my agony:
I asked them for a refund as I was not in a state of mind to go ahead with HATHWAY. They promised that the refund will be provided soon. Once again there were no news from their end. On contacting theie call center they gave me the phone number of their manager who again assured me that the refund would be done soon. It has been 15 days since then and I am still running for my money back. They never call back. I am not sure if I will get my hard earned money or not but there is one thing for sure, HATHWAY will never reach my home.

Beam cable is offers nasty service. It should be given a name NASTY cable and not Beam cable. The procedure adopted by them is foolish and meaningless. If u want a new connection just make a call and they r ready 2 lick u ass along with giving a connection. But if u want 2 remove the connection u have 2 send a mail to the bloody technical team even when the server is down.

I have been using Beam Cable 256 kbps unlimited plan. The actual speeds are between 64 - 100 kbps. It will never touch 256 kbps during the day.
The possibility of touching the 256 kbps is after night 12 midnight and till 7 am in the morning. Throughout the day till midnight there is a data cap of 64 - 100 kbps .
They mention the plan as speeds upto 256 kbps which one will never get through out the day…………………………….
One has to spoil their sleep and sit at comp after midnight which only spoils the health of internet user who wants 256 kbps…….
Beam Cable Gimmicks….they never mention that the 256 kbps spped starts at 12 midnight and end at morning early hours………..but they advertise as speeds upto 256 kbps……..
Beam cable charges 850 per month and 9000 for annual package for speeds upto 256 kbps. But in reality they provide 64 - 100 kbps during tha day untill midnight.
BSNL is providing unlimited 256 kbps …for 9000 annual package and 900 monthly. If anybody is already using this package, please let me know the drawbacks…

Beam Cable’s customer service is moronic and they really get on my nerves. The service is erratic to say the least and their technicians never show up and are not well trained or professional like sify. sify offers lousy bandwidths but thats another story. I wish Beam could have that problem resolution in 1 day like Iqara, cuz for now their only solution to irate customers is moronic call center staff whos answer to all questions is ” we will forward to relevant department ”
Beam are you listening !!!!!

Beam Cable Connectivity is pathetic and when evr you call them .They do not respond properly. If u ask to task to some senior offical then just say they do know then what type of support they are providing. For past two days my internet connection is down. They print 96 kbps on their pamplet but give only 60 kbps .It seems that we are taken just for a ride by beam cale.
July 19th, 2006 at 12:48 pm
Hi,
Same bad service story guys.. though about hathway. They have a feasibility problem to shift a connection to a lane behind the previous address ( half a minute’s walking distance would’nt exactly involve setting up a sattelite gateway ) .
Next they avoid returning money. I guess going to the hathway office and sorting things out would be the only way out.
Shitty customer service though.

I have gotten Tata VSNL and it is working just fine. I had Beam Cable for almost five years. I constantly had problems and issues with them. I got their lease line, paying them ten thousand a month. For that price they would give me only 128 KB speed, but that was constant. But, every so often the line would go dead. If it happened at night, they could not repair it until next day. Their marketing people lie like there is no tomorrow. Their service is worse on most days and bad on some days. When I wanted to disconnect their service, they would not respond for two months, until I stopped paying them. Even then they did not respond until I had their service removed and replaced it with Tata’s broadband. This has been working fine.
Get Tata VSNL. I will find out about Iqara too. Beam Cable needs some competition. Beam Cable is a mom and pop type of a company whose employees seem to be in a constant state of flux.
They advertised 512 KB for Rs. 300/- which made me cut off their service as they would not even give me 256 for Rs. 10,000/- per month. They were looking for new suckers and lying and I decided that was enough and I am glad I stopped paying money to them.
Crooks still do well in India unfortunately and it does not seem it is about to change from the way things look now. Our laws need to penalize these people for false advertising and fraud, and stop them from robbing the citizens in the name of doing business. But, who is going to stop who?
I know at least two foreign companies that have closed shop and left India because of the corruption, lies and misinformation. I seriously think about doing that myself, but hopes of improvement keep me going.
I miss Mr. Babu our former CM who was beginning to straighten the mess a bit. YSR is better than most CMs of the past, but he has not been able to match Mr. Babu in my personal view. The fools dumped Mr. Babu.
May be we all deserve this. We are too complacent, all in all.

hi,
I’m having a BSNL home Un limited 900+ Plan.
Is working fine and as promised they are delivering speed of 256 KBPS.
Their Service is very good..
But the Problem starts when we contact their staff for any technical support.
They’ll keep on forwarding your call until the low level technical person.
Then even before he analyzes your problem, he demands a payment of 250 /- (Which is not stated anywhere with the service brochure..!!!)
Their service is better but as usual …the Customer care is WORSE than the BEAM, HATHWAY, IQUARA … Or any worst CC you can name..
Go for BSNL if you are technically sound and morally strong(to fight these scumbags) and you need the best of service available in the market.

hi all,
i have been using sify broadband since last one 2 years.Pathetically bad esp on weekends ,when u plan to surf the most. Most os the time some or the other error keep coming, complaining for which they directly blame your updated system .Moreover, the customer care people never have today, they shift everything to tommarrow which never comes and then….. u all know.
I am planning to shift to tata indicom. anybody has any experience with this. plz tell. I am literally suffering from sify bug.

,
I applied and paid 900 for beam cable on May 26th . I don’t have a connection as yet . 5 times they have called up saying it will be done tomorrow by any means, I have lodged two complaints since. To no avail.
• Technicians are another story they call up and ask me to wait 15 min , So I cancel my programs after 1 hr callback gets me response that he is going to be there in 5 min, another hour Passes I decide to leave for office, the guy named Sajid (Ph. 9394034903) shows up at apartment entrance.
• After swallowing my anger for his punctuality I take him back up to my house only to know after 15 min inspection that he does not have enough wire. Ok so one more day.
• On Sunday they install the wire and say I will go back and change my account to PPOE.
• No call back, next day onwards I get 1 call everyday all kinds of problem ranging from fiber cable cut, technician can’t come at 10 in the morning so please understand (You guys want me to take a day off for your technicians comfort , why not !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!).
• I believe one of the call up person that the technician will come to my place next day at 10, NO matter what, I wait till 10:30 way beyond office time. No response, call comes at 11:30 Sir we had this new problem why don’t you be understanding of our problem (Well great everything happens to you and nobody has the courtesy to inform me).
Now I am with no connection Beam cable sales person has given me a receipt of 850 (By the way I had paid this guy 900 for they don’t carry change).
My username : abhineetsmail and ph. 9966024370 , lie in the database with 0 return value to me. I asked for disconnection if it is this problematic but sorry money is gone.
What can I do now, Only publish this as a blog on the Net. And float it as a mail to Microsoft Company Distribution e mail.

Hi Guys I use BSNL Broadband in Hyderabad. The service seems to be very good. No issues for me. I have a 256kbps connection and I get the same.
I was on sify earlier. Thats pathetic. They give an application to login to their servers. I have a doubt on their application and monitored the traffic and found out it was sending lot of information from your machine ( software installed, local network config & so on.. ). I strongly recomend you not to go for sify.
I do not have an issue with BSNL. The customer service is prompt. ( Call the local help desk numbers only not the central customer care). If an issue is there one visit to the local office will sort it out. ( Remember these are DOT guys earlier ). Try to meet the highest official possible.

BEAM Cable is an useless interconnection. I have booked an internet connection on Monday 11-06-2007. I was told I will get the connection by 13-06-2007 evening
To collect the money they came in a day. But to install it no one is available. Further I have registered 6 Complaints and they don’t even have the courtesy to respond.
Getting in touch with the customer care is hell and further , They will not connect you to the concerned persons.
Now they started a new style where they put the phone on your face and say connection problem. Sick people.
I blasted them today for wasting my time. I have asked them to refund my money waiting for them to pay my money back.
- Rahul
PS: Update I had to wait an hour of my time in their office to get a phone number. Even after that they are not ready to part. And these guys behave as of they are doing me a service
None of the guys get you connected to the concerned authority. I was told my money willl be emailed to me and the guy who booked my connection will get in touch with me in this respect. Let me see for 3 more days.
June 15th, 2007 at 3:47 am
Same is the case with me. I paid Rs. 5000 for one year trigger p connection and after taking advance cheque, the connection was given after four dyas and within two days the connection got cut. Repeated attempts to call customer service does not solve the problem and i’ve almost wasted another 100 bugs on call itself as getting through to customer sevice number is another uphill task.

My hubby has tried BSNL but they promise to give me broadband connection only after 3 months after i get a landline and that will be like 4 months. I have been through various websites, but cant figure out a good broadband service. I think Beam cable is ok according to ur feedbacks here.
Please guys, can anyone help me out here.
thanks in advance.

Hi
I am from Maharastra and had a BSNL broadband connection, which was very good.
But I’ve shifted to Hyderabad 3 months ago.
I have been waiting for 2 months to get broadband connection from BSNL. But they just askme to come in 15 days. i am really frustrated of using dialup.
I have used HAthway in Pune before, but it is awefully bad as compared to BSNL. So I was trying to get something else here.
Can anyone list the broadband providers in Hyderabad? I had asked 2 users of Beam cable, and they seamed satisfied.
But after reading these reviews here, I am not sure. I had called Beam cable guys to come to my office. I logged on to check about this service, just in case.
Now I don’t think I want Beam Cable any more…
Can anyone PLEASE help me find a good broadband provider in Hyderabad?
September 12th, 2007 at 12:44 pm

October 21st, 2007 at 11:11 pm
hi guys
i loose the connection every 2-3 days, the cyberroam client just says ‘could not contact server’,when i call CC they say ‘your complaint has been registered and will be solved in 24 hrs’ what the HELL is that 24 hrs waht does they mean!!! every time when we have a power cut internet gets dissconnected, even after we get power the the client says could not contact server,
hey i want to tell one thing ‘’dont waste your valuble time using beam cable'’ i rate it as 2/10
i know why many are using beam, coz its cheap
remember one thing “quality comes with prize”,i’m changing my connection soon
there is nothing wrong with the CC or those who are working in the company, its the fault of beamcable-the worst internet provider i have ever seen;)
December 21st, 2007 at 7:43 pm

Hi Everyone,
I have a Beam cable data transfer package of 2.8 GB limit. This ran perfectly well for over 5 months. Last month, I have noticed a usage of over 7GB, while I am sure it is practically impossible for us to be even touch 1 GB monthly. Beam cable blames it on us (they play it safe). However, I am sure that there network connections are so insecure, that anyone on their network can use anyone elses connection (especially coz data transfer connections are of a higher speed).
Instead, I have heard recently, that there are websites that cater to hacking beam cable connections by spoofing Mac Id’s. Supposedly, Beam cable has blocked a few websites that post such information. Its a sad situation that Beam cable, can’t solve such critical problems - Shame on you Beam Cable!
Comments?

Beam Cable is Crap.
Customer Service Crap.
Technical Support Crap. The guys who come to check the connection at home just know how to cut the wires and climb poles outside your house.
The poeple who come to fix the issues at home are ill-mannered. They do not know a,b,c of networking and just play with your computer.
There is one fellow who comes on Hero-Honda splendour, he freqently tells me to change the LAN card as it is burnt. When i do a system restore, the connection works fine and that fellow doesnot have any answer. He just makes to buy new lan cards. They actually carry some and install it at very higher costs. They do all this when u r not at home and tell stories to our parents about networking. Poor Parents, they blive everything and ask them to fix.
They should carry a laptop to test connections. They should demonstrate to the customer that the connection is working fine on other computers so that the customers realise that there is something wrong with the computer/software and not the actual internet connection. If for no reason you ask people to get your computer fixed without providing a root cause. its just CRAP.
ISPs, whoever it is, the product/service that u are providing will never match with what u have advertise ……thats ok, we can understand and bear. But, IF YOUR CUSTOMER SERVICE IS POOR THEN GOD SAVE YOU. When the market opens and when u see competetion, you would be the first one to perish.
Take my words. Provide quality service and decent customer support for what you are charging. We r not asking more than that.
January 30th, 2008 at 12:24 am
Guyz…….after reading this blog i find bsnl as a reliable option, however in order to get bsnl we need to wait for a hell lot of time…..
Im also ur cousin who suffered using beam cable……the cc people are so irresponsible they have a ready custom made answer to give to customers calling for connectivity problems……we will inform technicians and they will get back to you in 24 hrs,and it gets onto nerves of already irate users……feel like banging the director or owner of beam cable if he is seated somewhere in hyderabad….
I dnt understand one thing the name is just not apt “24 hrs online” the client for beam cable. It shud be reversed ” 24 Hours not online”…. just 2 or 3 hours online….whenever i click that icon on my desktop i becum restless and impatient…
Sick assholes dnt keep up their promises….no supervisors or senior technicians, even if they are available there they dnt come on da phone….
Area manager is ur only hope if u wish to reach to the shirt collar of da CEO of beam cable…that too not sure……
Anyways its just waste of energy and space to discuss and write abt beam cable……
Have to wait for bsnl now…dunnoi how its gonna take…does anybody have any idea?

Hi !
I got a BEAM cable connection in Jan beginning. Installation was prompt, but then the BEAM Hyderabad head office is 5 mins walking distance from my home. I too have taken a starte package of 2MBps and 2.8GB limited data.
My average download speeds are around 20-30KBps !!! When taking the connection the executive assured me I should expect a minimum of around 100 KBps. This week the tech support told me over phone I should expect a minimum of 256 KBps.
Today when I called tech support guy to my house to check this, he changed his story and said I could only expect 30 KBps - exactly what I was getting in front of him. In Madhapur people get 30KBps for a 256KBPS unlimited data connection from BEAM. So 2MBps should definitely get much more, else what am I paying extra for.
I am disappointed in the speed that I am getting. I am disappointed that the tech people are changing their story to fit the circumstances. And I am disappointed that my CC executiev is not picking his phone up.
I consider this as fraud - making me pay for a service while promising something and not delivering.
Have emailed CC from BEAM website. Lets see what happens. Will keep you all posted.

Hi All,
I got beam cable connection on nov.It is unlimited and 96KBPS but when we down loading or browing it is down loading only 4 to 7 KBPS.I called several times to customer care they told like 4KBPS = 96KBPS. What they are telling till now I didnot understand.
At the time upgrading server in Jan, 2008 around 1 month I never connected the Internet.
