Progress or development

It is general consensus that human kind made a lot of progress or “developed” as a society since the early nomadic days. Usually, this refers to quality/type of clothing, facilities, ability to do a task or do it faster, better, simpler. So, having a tool to forge a knife is better than not being able to make one and having a machine that manufactures those knives is even more progress or development.

Viewed this way, product development - building products - is central to human society’s progress. While product development is engaged with a commercial motive, products and product improvements essentially should be aimed at improving things. Our development or progress is relentless march of this entire society to make things better, easier, faster, simpler.

Turns out that this progress is an excellent commercial enterprise. People put a lot of value on this and anyone who contributes to “progress” in a meaningful way is rewarded very well. Did I say rewards? Well, rewards automatically attract engagement from various folks, which means competition.

I guess everyone gets these basics. But it all kinda made sense to me the other day.
