Aah the drama of indian cricket
It all makes for great drama. It’s horrible how the BCCI leaks confidential reports prepared by the coach. I mean, they hired greg chappell to do a job. He is making his assessments and giving them back to the board. The least the BCCI can do is to keep things confidential. How can a coach be honest about his opinions if everything he says is going to be leaked to the press? The full greg chappell email is here
Anyway, as i was discussing with venkat ghanta this morning, the way greg chappell is handling this issue, it will have a net positive impact on indian cricket.
There can be two outcomes for this issue.
Either ganguly continues to be the captain - in which case, he is going to raise his effort levels and performance (as evidenced by sept 15th section quoted below)
Ganguly labours to his first century in 20 months and tells the media that he was asked to step down before the Test and that he found “extra determination” for this innings.Or he is going to be replaced in favor of a different captain. I don’t know if the next captain is going to be better than Ganguly - for all his faults, he is pretty successful - but the team will be better overall.
- Both kaif and yuvraj will be in the game, strengthening the middle order.
- Greg chappell’s position will be strengthened, paving the way for a more aggressive cricket.
- Less politics overall in the team.
Let’s see what’s going to happen.

I’m not too worried about Indian cricket. The team lost to a second XI England, yes, but it’s still a great side full of superb players.
The Ganguly problem probably won’t get solved. It’s an odd way for a great players like him to leave international cricket, similar to Michael Bevan, or Mark Butcher. If Ganguly makes heaps of first class runs then I say he should be allowed to continue playing until he retires (perhaps with a little encouragement). If he doesn’t make runs then let him disappear from the headlines.

Mohinder Amarnath - the player who still is considered as the catalyst of India’s first and only World Cup win till date, made his comeback after a gap of three years..
Cricket fans used to talk about that man’s chances into the national team at that time as well. The numbers may have been lot less but the delima was not… and when Amarnath did make his comeback - recoverying from a “head injury” which didn’t even allow him to walk at its peak, people say he played his best cricket then.
I agree with Ravi that “that Ganguly drama” has helped Indian cricket team find its new stars, but I rule out the chances of Ganguly not coming back into Indian team. I am no Bengali, no die hard fan of that man who used to be invincible on the off side, but I am a cricket blogger. A full time cricket blogger that I mean…
And I’ve been eating because of My Indian cricket team for last 10 months now. And my calculation says that man will get one more chance…
Lets wait and watch till February 2007.
Anyways, the following is exclusively for Ravi…. So others better not read any further..
Hello Ravi,
I am Binit. I tried to find a contact address on your blog, only to fail and write this long comment. Although you had written this article about an year ago, it is the only one you have written on cricket…. the caregory I belong to.
And I coundn’t find another way to ask you for a link exchange. You write about Business (which I am doing myself), you write about Technology which many of my readers want and some times you recall our country - India as well.
Though you sheldom write about cricket, I guess I can provide that to your readers and you can update my readers with latest in the modern world..
Waiting for a reply..
Thanks and take chances.

Still…Ganguly took this as a challenge and came out of it..with his performance in recent test matches at South Africa and last one day match against West Indies.
